The Flytrap Media is a worker-owned, intersectional, and expansive feminist media group that thinks beyond clicks and hashtag-engagement. We are bringing principled and diverse cultural criticism from a feminist perspective back to the internet.

Our flagship newsletter, The Flytrap, features fresh, surprising, and sometimes challenging critiques, analyses, and reporting on culture, politics, and current events. Every Friday, we feature a reprint from the archives of Bitch Media, preserving a legacy of feminist pop culture criticism. The Flytrap's fellowship program also supports early career writers and artists with a six-month residency that creates room for exploration, learning, and community connections.

The Flytrap is joined by the Cancel Me, Daddy podcast, which you can support on Patreon and listen to on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all the other places where fine podcasts live. Paid Flytrap subscribers get an exclusive ad-free feed!

Free subscribers receive every Friday's Bitch Media reprint along with one original feature monthly. For folks who want to read The Flytrap's original features weekly in their inboxes, join the conversation in the comments section, and much more, become a member! If you just want to support us with a tip without becoming a member, you can do that too!

In 2024, cofounders Andrea Grimes, Aria Velasquez, Chrissy Stroop, Christine Grimaldi, Evette Dionne, Katelyn Burns, Nicole Froio, rommy torrico, s.e. smith, and Tina Vásquez believed the time was right to launch an explicitly intersectional feminist publication owned and powered by workers, not bros and Big Tech bosses, and our supporters delivered on our wildly successful Kickstarter seed funding campaign.

Our worker-owners are proud to join Flaming Hydra, Defector, Aftermath, 404 Media, and other exciting new independent media projects, and we believe the time is right to launch an explicitly intersectional feminist publication owned and powered by workers, not bros and Big Tech bosses. The Flytrap has a ferocious commitment to editorial freedom and a values-led investment in exploration and play, with writing and art you won’t find anywhere else. We’re not publishing to cater to a Meta feed, a megacorp, advertisers, or an audience of thirsty centrists clamoring for “both sides.” We’re producing what we want to read, watch, and listen to — for us and for you, actual humans. Like a growing number of independent media organizations, we've also partnered with the National Writers Union on freelancer policies.

Our bylines have appeared in the New York Times (sorry), the Washington Post (sorry), Bitch Magazine (RIP), The Toast (RIP), The Establishment (RIP), The Counter (RIP), Esquire, Teen Vogue, Rolling Stone, Politico Magazine, MSNBC, The Guardian, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, The Nation, The Atavist Magazine, In These Times, SELF, DAME, Vogue, Vice (RIP-ish), GEN magazine (RIP), The Rumpus, The Verge, Civil Eats, Racked (RIP), Rewire News, Longreads, the Los Angeles Review of Books, Prism, the New York Review of Books, Nieman Reports, Vox, Catapult (RIP), The Baffler, the Columbia Journalism Review, the Texas Observer, Playboy, Foreign Policy and many more.

And we’re real glad you’re here.
